East Toronto Orthopaedic & Sports Injury Clinic and Trilogy Physiotherapy have partnered in order to provide you with the experienced and skilled care you deserve.
Stretch Rx is our specialized protocol for assisted stretching, also known as stretch therapy. In one-on-one sessions, a certified practitioner, such as a kinesiologist or PTA, expertly maneuvers your body through a series of movements while you relax. This loosens your muscles, which is key to helping you feel a deeper stretch and an improvement in your range of motion.
With Stretch Rx, individuals can benefit from:
Greater flexibility and a noticeable decrease in pain
Improved circulation for quicker recovery and less muscle soreness
Enhanced strength and better performance in physical activities
Reduced tension and stiffness in the back, hips, neck, and legs
What conditions can Stretch Rx help with?
Many common aches and pains are directly linked to underlying muscle tightness and restricted mobility. By addressing these root issues, Stretch Rx can help provide relief. Our assisted stretching therapy is helpful for managing symptoms related to:
Postural strain: including back, neck, shoulder pain, caused by desk work.
Athletic injuries: such as IT band syndrome, shin splints, and plantar fasciitis
Joint and nerve pain: relief from general joint stiffness, pinched nerves (sciatica), and facet joint dysfunction
Chronic conditions: including muscular imbalances, persistent chronic pain, and discomfort from disc herniation.
How does Stretch Rx work?
1. Your initial assessment
If you are a new patient, your first step begins with a 30-minute one-on-one assessment with a registered physiotherapist or chiropractor. During this session we will discuss your health history, evaluate your current mobility, and understand your goals. This allows us to create a fully customized assisted stretching plan just for you.
Existing patients of our clinic can book their stretch sessions directly.
2. Your Stretch Rx session
During your appointment, you will remain fully clothed in comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You simply relax on a treatment table while your certified stretch therapist gently guides your body through a series of targeted passive stretches. The goal is to achieve a deep, effective release of tension and lengthen muscles in a way that is difficult to do on your own.
3. Ongoing support
Your progress is a collaborative effort. Your primary physiotherapist or chiropractor will oversee your plan, adjusting as needed to help ensure you continue to see improvement.
To support you between visits, your stretch therapist will also provide personalized at-home stretches, complete with video guides and clear instructions, to help you maintain flexibility and feel great.
Stretch sessions may be covered by extended health benefits
Your Stretch Rx sessions are overseen by a physiotherapist or chiropractor, which means they’re eligible for coverage under most extended health insurance plans. We recommend contacting your benefits provider to confirm the details of your coverage.
Frequently Asked Questions About Stretch Rx (Stretch Therapy)
How is stretch therapy different from a massage?
Stretch Rx vs massage therapy Assisted stretching like Stretch Rx and a massage can both relieve tension, but they achieve it in different ways. Massage therapy focuses on kneading muscle tissue to help break up knots. In contrast, Stretch Rx focuses on lengthening the entire muscle to help improve flexibility and overall mobility. After a Stretch Rx session, you should feel looser and relaxed.
How often should I receive a Stretch Rx session?
Frequency of Stretch Rx sessions The best schedule for Stretch Rx is the one that aligns with your personal goals. To simply maintain good flexibility and feel your best, scheduling a session every couple of weeks is a great approach. If you are looking for targeted results, like accelerating sports recovery or finding relief from the stiffness of a desk job, we recommend more frequent appointments to start. During your initial appointment, your therapist will help you map out a treatment plan that complements your goals.
Will assisted stretching hurt me?
Assisted stretching is not painful The experience is designed to be relaxing and therapeutic, not painful. While you’ll feel your muscles being lengthened in a way that provides a significant release, it’s a sensation often described as a “good pull”—never sharp or uncomfortable. Think of it as a partnership: you relax, and your therapist does the work, constantly checking in to make sure every movement feels productive and comfortable.
Is stretch therapy right for me?
Who we help with Stretch Rx If you want to move better and feel less stiff, assisted stretching can help. This therapy is a powerful tool for anyone seeking to enhance their physical well-being. It is especially valuable for office workers fighting the strain of “desk posture” and for athletes focused on improving recovery and preventing injury. More broadly, it’s for any person who feels that their body’s flexibility isn’t what it used to be and wants to regain a sense of freedom in their daily movements.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is required. As Stretch Rx is available for private patients, anyone who feels they may benefit from the service is welcome to book an appointment.

I've been to Trilogy for various physiotherapy issues (back, wrist, neck, feet... I'm old and falling apart!) and the fact that I keep returning is an indication that I'm happy with the work they do. My last ailment was a wrist injury and my physio (Jane) gave me good and achievable exercises with followup instructions on how to do them.
One thing that I do like is that they are "hands on" and will manually manipulation during the sessions. I've had physiotherapists at our other practices that don't do that.
