East Toronto Orthopaedic & Sports Injury Clinic and Trilogy Physiotherapy have partnered in order to provide you with the experienced and skilled care you deserve.
Is your child missing milestones, experiencing pain, or struggling with movement? Paediatric physiotherapy can help your child reach their full potential.
What is paediatric physiotherapy?
Paediatric physiotherapy is a specialized area of physiotherapy focused on the assessment, treatment, and management of physical conditions in infants, toddlers, children, and adolescents. Unlike adult physiotherapy, it takes into account that children’s bodies are still growing and developing, which means their needs, their goals, and their response to treatment are completely unique.
We use individualized, play-based approaches to make therapy engaging and effective. Our goal is to help your child build strength, improve flexibility, develop coordination, and reach their physical milestones, all while having fun. We are here to support your child and your family at every stage of growth.
How can paediatric physiotherapy help my child?
Paediatric physiotherapy can help children at many different stages, from infants showing early signs of developmental delays to active teens recovering from sports injuries. It addresses the root causes of physical challenges rather than just the symptoms, supporting your child’s long-term health and development.
Physiotherapy can help children:
Build strength and improve motor skills needed for everyday activities, play, and sports
Develop better balance, coordination, and body awareness
Address pain, discomfort, or restriction caused by injury, posture, or developmental conditions
Reach physical milestones at their own pace with the right support
Return to activities they love after an injury or setback
Gain confidence in how their body moves and feels
Therapy is family-centred throughout. Parents and caregivers are involved at every step, and home exercise guidance helps support progress between clinic visits.
Jaime is a registered physiotherapist at Lifemark Trilogy West with post-graduate training in paediatric physiotherapy. She grew up right here in South Etobicoke and has a genuine passion for working with children and families in her local community.
Frequently Asked Questions About Paediatric Physiotherapy
What conditions does paediatric physiotherapy treat?
Paediatric physiotherapy can support a wide range of conditions affecting infants, children, and teens. Some of the most common include:
Torticollis and neck tightness
W-sitting and posture concerns
Poor balance and coordination
Toe walking and in/out-toeing
Delayed motor milestones such as rolling, sitting, crawling, or walking later than expected
Flat feet and walking concerns such as toe walking, in-toeing, and out-toeing
Sports injuries and concussions
How does paediatric physiotherapy work?
Every child is different, and so is every treatment plan. Paediatric physiotherapy begins with a comprehensive assessment: your physiotherapist will take time to understand your child’s history, observe how they move, evaluate their strength and coordination, and hear from you about your goals and concerns.
From there, treatment is tailored specifically to your child. Depending on the condition, sessions may include:
Hands-on manual therapy to address muscle tightness, joint mobility, or postural issues
Play-based therapeutic exercises designed to build strength, coordination, and motor skills in a fun, low-pressure environment
Postural education and movement guidance
A home exercise program with clear instructions for parents to support progress between sessions
Ongoing progress tracking with regular plan adjustments as your child grows and improves
Sessions are designed to feel more like play than therapy. Children are often surprised by how much they enjoy their appointments.
When can I expect to see results?
Every child’s journey is different. Timelines vary depending on the condition, its severity, and how consistently therapy and home exercises are followed. That said, many families begin to notice meaningful improvements within 4–6 weeks of starting treatment.
One of the most important things to know: early intervention matters. The sooner a concern is addressed, the more quickly and effectively physiotherapy can support your child’s development.
What can I expect from our first physiotherapy appointment?
Your first visit is a chance for us to get to know your child and your family, and to understand exactly what you’re hoping to achieve. Here’s what generally happens:
During the appointment:
A comprehensive assessment of your child’s movement, strength, coordination, and motor skills
A conversation about your child’s medical history and any relevant diagnoses or referral notes
A discussion of your family’s goals and any concerns you’d like to address
An overview of a proposed treatment plan, including frequency of visits and any home exercises
What to bring:
Any relevant medical records, physician referral notes, or specialist reports
Imaging results (X-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs) if applicable
Comfortable, easy-to-move-in clothing (shorts and a T-shirt work well)
For infants and toddlers, a favourite toy or comfort item to help them feel at ease

I've been to Trilogy for various physiotherapy issues (back, wrist, neck, feet... I'm old and falling apart!) and the fact that I keep returning is an indication that I'm happy with the work they do. My last ailment was a wrist injury and my physio (Jane) gave me good and achievable exercises with followup instructions on how to do them.
One thing that I do like is that they are "hands on" and will manually manipulation during the sessions. I've had physiotherapists at our other practices that don't do that.
